WP1 Driveline Shaft, Bearing and Seal Systems
Objectives: Driveline shaft and bearing system developed by SKF for hydrokinetic systems. The driveline will comprise thrust and radial bearings mounted in a manner advantageous for high reliability operation.
Description of work:
This work package involves the development of an advanced bearing and rotary seal solution to be capable of deployments of at least 1 year in a seawater operating environment. The most common failure mode of synchronous machines is bearing failure and the most common failure mode of MHK direct drive generators is rotary seal leaks. Due to these failure modes, this work package is crucial to developing a reliable solution capable of long durations between maintenance periods.
