WP5 Novel Control System Designs
Objectives: Design a suite of control algorithms that meet project needs. The control laws will have varying complexity; from basic fixed speed laws to active control adaptive power take off optimisers.
Description of work:
This work package involves the development of an advanced bearing and rotary seal solution to be capable of deployments of at least 1 year in a seawater operating environment. The most common failure mode of synchronous machines is bearing failure and the most common failure mode of MHK direct drive generators is rotary seal leaks. Due to these failure modes, this work package is crucial to developing a reliable solution capable of long durations between maintenance periods.
